My wife’s Explorer had that chime. We were four hours from home on a Sunday when a short developed in the BLIS (blind spot monitor). Every time we hit a bump, the chime would go off to let us know the system was broken . We went to the nearest dealer, but their service department was closed and the sales guys were useless. The only way to disable it that I could find was to remove the steering column cover and cut a wire. That wasn’t happening.

Resigned to our fate, we got on the road. Then everyone broke out their headphones so they could tune it out. Everyone except me. It was as you described - four hours of hell.
